and never forgets 11 years after the 9/11 attacks. the president and first lady, michelle obama, joining defense secretary leon panetta at the pentagon a short while ago for the laying of the wreath there. all 64 people onboard american airlines flight 77 as well as 120 people inside the pentagon killed when al-qaeda hijackers crashed the passenger jet into the headquarters of america's military. national security correspondent jennifer griffin is with us now. jennifer, the scene outside the pentagon, what was it like today? >> reporter: well, jon, it's been a day of perfect blue skies that are reminiscent of that 11 years ago. the president and mrs. obama made their way from the white house where they had observed a moment of silence, there was another moment of silence that was observed here after they laid the wreath. it was exactly at the moment, 9:37, when american airlines flight 77 struck the pentagon behind me. >> the true legacy of 9/11 will not be one of fear or hate or division, it will be a safer world, a stronger nation and a people more united than ever before. god bless th
